Matariki Celebrations

Kia ora, Malo, Talofa and many more greetings! Kei te pehea koe?_How are you?)
Do you know what Matariki is?
Well, today I will be blogging about Matariki celebrations and what Matariki is. Here are some follow up questions I am going to awnser:

What is Matariki?
Matariki are the 7 sisters who sit upon Earth in order to represent the Maori new year. And is also known as the cluster stars. Matariki appears in the eastern sky around the shortest day of the year. Although, is also has two names represented by the ancient gods and maori's- Which are: Matariki and Mata-Ariki. But, other tribes believe that the stars represent the fallen of our ancestors.

What is the purpose of Matariki?
Traditionally, Matariki was a sign that the Maori hunting was coming to an end and the planting season was about to begin. It would also give the sign to the Maori's that it was time to harvest.
The importance of Matariki?
The importance of Matariki is too celebrate the Maori new year. But, only appears in the eastern sky around the shortest day of the year. Matariki also has the importance of celebrating deceased angels which are our ancestors who also live underneath these sisters.
Although, Matariki is also important because it helps or represents for the upcoming season.

The names of the sisters:
- Matariki
- Tupu-a-rangi
- Waiti
- Waita
- Waipuna-Rangi
- Uru-a-Rangi
- Tupu-a-nuku

What I think Matariki means:
To me, Matariki means the new harvest and bringing families together to celebrate as one whole. Besides this, during Matariki, some families/tribes cook hangi in papatuanuku(Ground,Floor) to send the steam up above to thank our ancestors as we that believe our chiefs live in them.

Besides this, here is a google presentation to show what I know about Matariki:
I hope you enjoy:
