Similes Practice Task.

WALT: Use similes to create our writing and make it more powerful ..

Kia Ora! Today, I have been working on a similes create practice task.. This presentation helps me to achieve mistakes in writing and to also add a bit of a spice to it.. Similes also help me to order my sentences and tell someone something that is true within my own words..

E.G: I am a carved Taonga!
Means: I am a descendant from Nga Puhi and Ngati Whatua..

So, do you see how I shortened the sentence by using a simily. If I was to just write a paragraph with no expression, the story would be boring and I wouldn't be able to hook in the audience to read my point of view..

Read through this presentation and see how I made the similes interesting..

DARE SESSION: 2

We got given a task to complete. It is about drugs and why we should not use it!
This task is good because it helps us to think about our decisions and why we should not take drugs. My reason is because it will effect your future.Drugs are really not good for you unless it is drugs to help you heal our body. But drugs that heal your body or make you feel better would be panadol morphine other medical health treatments. But if you misuse these things, they can kill you.It is very scary because these drugs are supposed to help you…

What do you find challenging about this session?
Something I found challenging with this session was, hearing the different reasons why people take drugs and also hearing that it has chemicals in it.. After listening to that sentence from Constable Taina, I have learned that everyone in my class has taken a drug before.. And this drug is PANADOL: Panadol is a type of pill that helps with headaches and many more.

Henna Designs

Kia Ora.
Today, I will be blogging about my hobbies!

My hobbies are mainly:
Henna Designing
Modeling/Photographing
Celebrity Makeup artist(Doing celebrity make up)..

But, I am just focusing on Henna Designing today!

Why have I chosen of Henna Designing as a hobby?
I have put henna designing as one of my hobbies because, I feel like it can actually teach me a lot of things about art.. It is also because, it has special and ancient stories behind the design..

What do I find challenging about Henna?
The only thing I find challenging about henna Designing is the fact that it has a lot of detail in it.. Although, I have been doing some easy and natural ones for starters.

Here is a photo of some Henna Designs on a piece of paper:

You may not see the picture clear enough:

Rainbow Metaphor Poem

Kia ora..
Today, I have been working on my Rainbow Metaphor Poem.. My one is described in a way I see a RAINBOW!
What do you see a RAINBOW AS?

DARE SESSION : 3

Drugs cause harm & pain to loved ones. We watched a couple of videos remaining to what the key message is and who this is aimed at. As you know, people take drugs to get over stress... But, that makes it worst! Whatever Children See, Children Do!
What adults do around children, children Do!

Read through my presentation and it'll share what I have learned and my persuasive writing!

D.A.R.E: Session 1

D.A.R.E stands for :
Drug Abuse Resistance Education..

DARE is a program that seeks to prevent use of controlled drugs, membership in gangs, and violent behaviors...

Through the first session with Constable Taina, I have learned that :
A drug can be defined as any chemical substance which alters the way a person's body or mind works.

This does not include food, air, and liquid which our body needs to work properly.
Almost everyone takes some sort of drug. A lot of people depend on taking drugs to keep healthy, but drugs can be harmful.

Because misusing drugs can be harmful, laws have been passed restricting their manufacture, distribution or use..

Here is my presentation the follows up on my 1 session with the DARE program.

Whakatauki O Te Wiki.

Kia Ora ! Today's whakatauki is:

"He Iti hoki te mokoroa nana i kakati te kahikatea"
______________________________________

The mokoroa may be small, but it cuts through the Kahikatea tree"

My personal meaning for this whakatauki means: Even though you are small, you can still do great things...Although we are one person, we can make change.. We will become one.

We should be collaborating ideas and should be working as a team for the purpose of our knowledge.

Book Box : Fever- Renara Hopkins

Fever: Renara Hopkins

For this text, I know that it fits the “Explanation” genre, it’s trying to tell the audience something… And also, the story that Renara Hopkins wrote did sound real to me.

The journal level of this text is “Level 4, Year 7”.

She has been waiting for so long- Now Carly has come.. : This story is about a young girl named Carly, who went on a school trip learning how to “Milk Cows”.. It was to a working farm, and they’d get to milk and feed cows with a bottle. On the way to the farm, Carly had caught a flu… It started to get really bad! She didn’t want to tell her mum and dad, because she didn’t want them to make her stay home.. The flu had gotten worse! On their first day of Milking Cows, Carly’s voice started to faint “Faint, Faint”... She fainted and couldn’t hear anyone.! Her saliva couldn’t swallow down her neck.. The light would burn her eyes, she just wanted to close them..After a while, when she was left alone in the room, Carly could her some voices, it faded once and then showed.. It was the pale-faced girl. She smiled.. She laid her hair against Carly’s pillow, and made her feel better the next day.. Carly’s parents came, wondering to not wake her up! Soon that morning, the pale-faced girl had followed Carly!...

The thing that enticed me into reading this book was the “TITLE”.. It doesn’t really sound that catchy, but as you look deeply into it, you would want to wonder what the book is actually going to be about..

Many people around the world have been telling scary stories to each other, and so this means that I think the author to this book had written it because she wanted to tell people about what she knows and what she grew up learning.

In this book, the author clearly didn’t talk about the TITLE.. The parts I read in this book was just about Carly milking the cows and a pale-faced girl following her..
  1. How did she get the fever?
  2. Where did the other souls go?
  3. Why did it have to be based on Carly milking the cows?
  4. Why did you choose this text
  5. What inspired you to do it?

There are no other text compared to this story that I have read!

QuickQure Maths

IALT: Use graphs to describe the relationship and devise and use problem solving strategies.

Today we solved an algebra problem to calculate the day wheather Rose or Mr Morrison would finish their QuickQuery Cough Medicine first.

I have used times tables and divisions to help me calculate the day Rose and Mr Morrison would overlap with the amount of medicine per day.

We make links to STATISTICS and chose a line graph to show our thinking. You can see clearly, that Rose and Dad finished their medicine on the same day...

What I found challenging? I didn't get it at first, but when my teacher gave an example, I started to think it quick and had my answer.

The fun part of this session was sharing my knowledge with the people around me and getting to change my ways of maths...

I now understand more of Level 4 algebra mathematics and no more need to use a table to help me!

Here is an example of my work:

Rose:
90mls = 1BTL
5mls = Every 6hours

5x18 =  90 -- 18 Divided by 3 = 15

Mr. Morrison:
300mls = 1BTL
30DZ = 1BTL
300 divided by 10 = 30
3x6 = 18

90 divided by 05 = 18..
30 divided by 05 = 6

Here is my graph lining to show my knowledge.

Kia Ora Viewers! Today's whakatauki is:

"Na to rourou, Na taku rourou, ka ora ai te iwi"
____
With your food basket and my food basket, we will thrive.

My personal meaning for this whakatauki means: My basket of knowledge, your basket of knowledge, our ideas will become one.

So basically, what I'm saying is that, with one person and the other, as both ideas are together, we will thrive....
We should be collaborating ideas and should be working as a team for the purpose of our knowledge.

Topsy Turvy Twins

WALT: Solve level 4 algebra problems!

Today we solved an algebra problem to calculate how much money would be spent and earned by 2twins. Tom started with $20 and spent $2pd. Tia started with $0 and earned $2.50pd.

I used a table and times tables to help me calculate the day Tia would overlap Tom with money.

We make links to STATISTICS and chose a line graph to show our thinking. You can see clearly, that Tia had more money than Tom.

What I found challenging? When I was working with my buddy, the answer we came up with was " $115".. This was fine because, as the class came together, we combined every idea as one and came with the answer of $10 by Friday.

Here is evidence to show my line graph learning!

Technology - Clock designing

KIa Ora Koutou! It is only 3 more weeks until all groups change classes in Technology.... Although, today in Miss. Fergusons class, we are making our final clock designs.

What design did I use for my clock?
To begin with, I have chosen a "LA" clock design. The colour black represents creativity and passion. White represents Spiritual focus and Deep thinking. "L" represents Love and Laughter. "A" represents Abstract thinking. So, basicly, this clock represents Strength, Love, Learning etc.

What I found challenging?
The one thing I found challenging today, was outlining my "L.A" letters. For the letters, you needed to take time for it, either wise your clock will look like a bowl of dog food.

What did you find fun today?
Today, the funniest thing in technology was when Miss. Ferguson called me "Chicken"... How is that? Anyways, when I first walked into the door and asked Miss Ferguson a question, she replied and also said "You sound like a little chicken"... Thats how she came up with the name.. Although, I do like it!

In technology today, I found it really fun and amazing! I hope we keep continuing!

Thankyou, Miss Ferguson!

Constance - Tivaevae Art Reflection

Tivaevae Art

Tivaevae art originates in the Cook Islands and is usually handcrafted by women.

Tivaevae are seen/used during; Weddings, Birthdays, Events, Special occasions etc

The patterns usually represent; Stitched Love. Women that quilt these tivaevae have taken so much time maybe every 2 hours or more a day. After it is finished, they share it with the next generation to the next.

Tivaevae are similar to other craft forms such as; Tukutuku Panels, Tivaevae Manu.

Tivaevae brings women together and connect with each other while weaving the Tivaevae sheets.

Tivaevae can be made for a sheet, clothes, art, shelter etc....

Today, we made our own versions of tivaevae, using paper.

Here is my final tivaevae.

Trying Times

IALT: Explore two-digit Multiplication!

Kia Ora Koutou! Today for Pangarau, I have been working on my two-digit Multiplication... This week, I am learning to use my 15 times table. Although, I already know half of the table... Some students: Myself, Cerenity, worked out our answers like this:
E.G - 4 x 15= (Half 4 to 1 and Double the 15 as it reaches one on the other side... Next, cross out the even numbers and you'll find that you have the answer).
This was the easiest way for me to solve the 15 times tables.

Here is a photo of my Pangarau work:
