KickBoxing
IALT: Reflect on what i've learned in kickboxing
Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog!
Today, for kickboxing we were learning about DEFENCE - Defence stances. Guard, footwork, Slip and roll. I really enjoyed this session! Something I enjoyed about it was learning the different kinds of stances, as I am new to boxing! It was great getting to experience something new, and also learning how to defend myself when it comes to bad situations. The challenging part from this session was, trying to hit the noodle in front of me. Because, I have small hands, the noodle helps me to know my stances and defence moves. Next time, I could improve on aiming for the noodle, instead of throwing my hands out. So, my goal for next time is to Aim and also to always have my guard. (Rock stance). Something I've learned from boxing was, how to keep myself balanced and giving my lower body a foundation to hold, so that I don't fall or lose balance. I also learned the defence stances. Guard, footwork, slip and roll. From these stances, my favourite was the footwork, because when the noodle would come down aiming for my head, its like a whole bunch of maths is running through my head. Its like my brains telling the that if I move 50 degrees backwards, I would ditch the noodle. This is something I enjoyed learning!
In boxing, we also have 3 commandments:
Respect, Discipline and Safety.
Respect: I will have respect for myself, my coach, my peers, and the sport boxing.
Discipline: I will have the discipline to turn up to every boxing session, and give my 100%
Safety: I will not cause harm to others and only practice boxing in a safe environment under the guidance of a coach.
To me, this means having the respect for yourself, others and also the sport boxing. Turning up to every practice with a 100% effort, and also caring for the equipment and people around me.
Questions:
Have you ever done boxing? Is it hard or easy? What is your highlight about boxing?
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed!

VolleyBall - Kiwisport
Kia Ora! And many more greetings to you all!.
This morning, Kia Manawanui syndicate had trials for the Volleyball game tomorrow.
The tournament is held @SelwynCollege. Orakei. 10 April 2018.
This is the first ever Volleyball tournament, Tamaki Cluster has ever had. And I am really excited for the game. I do hope I have been selected in the year 8 game.
Although, here is a little reflection I have completed about my session in Volleyball.
Volleyball:
Here are some basic rules that may help you, if you'd like to play Volleyball anywhere.
- When it's back to your teams serve, always rotate Clockwise.
- If you are to set the ball, use your fingers, not your palm.
- The boundaries are out of the square.
- Three passes in your team before it goes over the net.
Something I've learned from my volleyball skills, is that setting the ball is one thing I am good at. And that it is also easy for me to dig my hands underneath the ball, to help it travel over the net.
I do well at setting the ball to the other pairs in my team. But, something I need to work on is serving.
Setting the ball - When I set the ball, it helps one of my pairs to get underneath it and set it to the next person. This helps to get the ball over the net.
Serving - For me, serving is harder than I thought. E.g - When I serve the ball, it goes from straight to another direction. - My goal is to keep the ball straight for it to go to the opposite team.
During this game, I've realised that the pairs in my team and myself were working as a team and were also communicating. This helped us to keep the game going, without the ball touching the ground.
Communication - Communication helps the team know what to do. E.g - If I was to tell Aumau to pass the ball to me so I can set it to Grace. That'll be 3 passes. So when it gets to Grace, she'll dig the ball over the net.
Teamwork - Teamwork can help your team to communicate with the pairs in your group and can also help you to know what to do. It is a little bit like Communication.
2 players that I thought did well today, was Aumau and Grace.
Aumau - He was good at setting the ball. And was also good at communicating with the team.
Grace - Even though Grace would fail at serving the ball, she'd never GIVE UP!. She kept trying and trying until the ball went over the net.
This is the end of the Volleyball session, I have had.

Kiwisport - Tennis: Volleyball
IALT: Reflect on the sessions we had for Kiwisport and Volleyball.
Kia Ora! Malo! and many more greetings!.
Today was the last session for Tennis, and the first session for Volleyball.
This week, we are doing volleyball because, a tournament will be held in the terms of Term1 Week5.
This will be a great time to be practicing.
Tennis:
One thing I enjoyed during Tennis was, connecting with my pairs in the group and having their support during the game we had.
The challenging part of this game was running for the ball. My partner really did make me feel like Usain Bolt.
Kiwisport just made me feel AMAZING! It made my birthday feel like a spark. I am now active and now ready for the rest of my day at school.
For next time when we have Tennis, I could improve on having a Growth Mindset. Sometimes in the morning, I feel like I ain't in the mood for running and hitting the ball.
This will be a great time for me to improve on this goal.
This will be a great time for me to improve on this goal.
Volleyball:
Have you ever played Volleyball before?
Well, today was the first time i've played Volleyball.
And I already feel like i'm better. My skills are top mark. And I feel like im really really good at this game.
Something I enjoyed about this session was learning how to serve and setting the ball.
To set the ball - An easy way to learn, is to put you hands around your heaps and then bring them up over your head. If the ball perfectly fits in between your hands, then it will be good enough for you to set the ball. Usually, people hit with there palms and push up. In this case, you need to go under the ball and let your fingertips push the ball upwards.
To serve the ball - There will be a line for the server. When the reef blows the whistle, you need to run 3 steps up - Throw the ball up with the hand you do not write with and hit the ball on the wrist/ball of your hands.
Although, make sure your knees are a little bit bent and your heaps are facing straight. If you do not follow this rule - The ball with follow wherever your heaps faced.
Next time, I could improve on calling out that the ball is mine and not running for the ball, when it isn't coming for me.
If I do this consistently, then I will be better in Volleyball.
OH YES!! Now I see that I am not that good at Volleyball, but I know a lot of skills!
This makes me want to learn more skills and rules for Volleyball.
