IALT: Reflect on what I've learned about Matariki.
Do you know what Matariki is?
Well, Matariki is a cluster of stars, known as the seven sisters. Matariki is also the central star of the seven sisters. The seven sisters are - Tupu-a-nuku, Tupu-a-rangi, Waiti, Waita, Waipuna Rangi, and Uruarangi. If you didn't know, Matariki is a sign that represents Maori New Year, people, culture and language. And also the spirits beneath the seven sisters. Our ancestors (Great people). Some also call the sisters - Eye of god (Matariki) and Little eyes (Mataariki).
Celebrations:
Celebrations that I know is that, when Matariki appears, festivals are thrown or family get together for a big fest. A way I've celebrated Matariki was attending to festivals, and having a family fest - With a type of food called 'Hangi'. Hangi is the Maori tradition kai.
Depending on the visibility of the stars, its signals that the upcoming season for food crops would begin in September, or would begin in October. It also signals, bad luck or goodluck .
