Maths reflection

IALT: Write a reflection on what I've done for maths.
Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog! Today, I will be reflecting on what I have done for maths.

For maths, I have been working on adding and subtracting numbers. Here is an example: 

Subtraction (-) : 3.6 - 2.4 would equal 1.2 because 3 - 2 = 1 and .6 -.4 equals .2 .. And there is how the answer would be 1.2 

Addition: 77.5 + 9.8 = 87.3 .. I don't really know how to explain how I got this answer because I did it in an algorithm way. But I am strongly sure that it will equal 87.3 ..

Something I am finding challenging about maths is that, sometimes they don't give examples, so its harder for us to know what the sheet is asking us. Although, I enjoy maths because it is challenging and also because it keeps me busy and lets me have fun at the same time.

Overall, maths was really challenging but fun and I hope we get more tasks like this often.

Mathematics - 2018

IALT: Relfect on what I've done for maths
Kia Ora and Welcome back to my blog! Yesterday for maths, we had free maths time. This is when we get into groups and play a maths game. For Example: Me and my group choose the playing cards as figuring out what number we have on our forehead.

This is how the game goes:
There are 2 people versing.
And the other calling out what those numbers equal using multiplication thinking.
E.G- One person has 3 and the other person has 9. The person without the cards with equal them together -( 3 x 9 )= 27. So they will say 27. Do not say the numbers out loud like "3 x 9 = 27". NO, you just say what it equals and they need to try guess what number they have. The person with the 3 and if he/she says 3 then they get the cards from their head and their mates head.

This was the best of how I could explain the game, but if you do get it, then have fun playing it !
I would rate this game 10 out of 10 because its really educational and can also test your multiplication speed.

I really enjoyed this game, because it challenged me and I like to face challenges. I also liked being the person without the cards on my forehead, because it gave me some time to figure out what both numbers equal, and it also let me think. What I found challenging was when I had to speed think about the card number I have on my head.

I ejoyed maths today! And I hope we can do this some other day!

Maths - Problem Solving🤷🙋

Kia Ora! Talofa! And many more greetings..

Today, for maths we did problem solving.
The problem we had to solve was: How many band aids are in each kit?

Question:
Kelly bought 832 bandaids to take to Camp Raglan. The bandaids must be equally shared into 8 first aid kits. How many band aids are in each kit?

The strategy my group used was : Dividing.

832.

We took the 800 and divided it into 8 equal groups. Leaving the 32 out.
This gave us 100.

Because 800 divided by 8 = 100.

We divided the 32 by 8 and this equaled 4.

Because 32 divided by 8 = 4

We added both answers of 100 and 4. Altogether it gave us = 104.

This problem solving was easy for me. And I hope to do harder questions next time.
Although, I really enjoyed working with this problem question and also discussing it with my group.

Cutting it #Fractions.

"The only way to learn mathematics, is to do mathematics" : Quoted by. Paul Halmos. 
For Pangarau(Mathematics), Porowhita(Circles) and Tapa wha(Squares), have been working on our fractions. And what is fractions? As we all now, fractions are equal pieces. And is also a numerical quantity that is not a whole number. (E.g: 1/2 , 0.5) or (1/4, 0.25). The effect of knowing fractions, is that you'll instantly be able to answer other equations easily and quickly. It'll also be easier for you to work out your algebra. 

Cutting It!
"Cutting It" is the name of the task I've been working on. This worksheet is based on a baker. And what about the baker? The baker, is showing how she cuts her pies and quiches in fractions. (E.g: When she has 8 people for tea. Her fraction would be worded as this__ . Whole, Half, Quarter, Half x2 . Inside each quarter piece- Going down). 

Challenging!
What was your challenge? The most challenging part of this task, would be cutting the fraction of twentieth in place. Because, it's the largest number, it has the smallest pieces. So, it was a bit difficult trying to half it up. 

Best Part!
The best part of this task, was getting to know more about fractions! 

Task Question!
Mrs.Cook's son, Doug cut a quiche in fifths and it ended up like this. His sister Annie is not happy!


Who do you think is right? Explain your answer!
I would say that Annie is right. Because, if you look closer, you'll see the quarter and sixth in Doug's quiche. 
If you were to make a fifth. This is what the fraction would be like!

Describing Fractions of Amount.

Today, I have been completing a task, related to fractions.
In this task, we needed to write statements related to the block collections. 
For example: 
There are 30 blocks altogether. 
The fraction of the orange blocks would be 1 third. That means there are 10 orange blocks. I know this because, 20 divided by 3 is 10. 
There are 10 yellow blocks. Yellow makes up 1 third of the collection. 
There are 5 pink blocks. They make up 1 sixth of the collection. This is the same as the grey blocks. 30 divided by 5 is 30, so one sixth is 5 blocks. 

If you keep working towards your fraction, this means, you will seek more knowledge through times tables and divisions. And you'll be able to do maths equations instantly.

Topsy Turvy Twins

WALT: Solve level 4 algebra problems!

Today we solved an algebra problem to calculate how much money would be spent and earned by 2twins. Tom started with $20 and spent $2pd. Tia started with $0 and earned $2.50pd. 


I used a table and times tables to help me calculate the day Tia would overlap Tom with money. 


We make links to STATISTICS and chose a line graph to show our thinking. You can see clearly, that Tia had more money than Tom.


What I found challenging?When I was working with my buddy, the answer we came up with was " $115".. This was fine because, as the class came together, we combined every idea as one and came with the answer of $10 by Friday.

Pangarau - Mathematics_T2W7

Kia Ora Tamariki ma! Kei te pehea koe? _How are you?) Ko Constance toku ingoa. Ko ruma tekau toku ruma. No naia nei for Pangarau, we were set into our groups to work on individuals tasks. My group "Porowhita", had been working on lego fractions! Ahatia, something I was proud about from my own learning was, getting to know how to use legos as fractions. The challenging or even difficult about this part of Pangarau session was trying to find the different types of colours of legos because there were a lot of students around it and were building big thins. But, this job was a bit easy because I had my best friend next to me! We were a great team! This " Best friend" is named Cerenity! Besides this, the fractions my buddy and made during mathematics was 1/4, 5/8 and 1/2! A personal goal I would like to improve on is learning and understanding more of my fractions! I can achieve this goal by: Practicing more - And also trying my best in answering questions based on fractions!
We were also given a question using minus! This question was: 231 - 78 = and was answered : 230 - 70 = 160, then 160 - 8 = 152 + 1 = 153
