What does Mauri Mean to me (?)

Kia Ora.

Today, Half of the Kia Manawanui (Because some went to Rainbows End).. Students, have been working on an artwork called "Mauri"..

What does Mauri Mean
(Maori Meaning to ) -Life Force. or Essence.

Where does Mauri come from?
Mauri is in yourself. Every child now and then are naturally born with Mauri. Weather, you have disability or your just a person. As you age, you slightly decide when your ready at activating in.

Why is Mauri important?
It doesnt only keep the legends from the great past known, and our culture alive. But, Mauri guides you to find yourself more and more throughout your journey. It helps you to know who you are(?) and find the kind of person you really are(?).Mauri comes with Mana. And mana comes with respect..To respect Mauri, you need to learn lots about who you are and about your culture.

What does mauri mean in your context?:
In my opinion: Mauri means finding out, who you are and being yourself.

Here is the art I have drawn for my Mauri Artwork:

The Tamaki logo represents the school I go to..
The Aroha represents my family and friends ... Uniting;
The Sun and Hook represents the day Maui slowed down the sun, for days to go by slow.. What my culture believes in..
The New Zealand flag represents the land I live on.. Where I stand: Where I stay.. Where I belong!

What I have been doing today(?)

Kia Ora! Kei te pehea koe?(How are you?)..
Although, this blog will be about, what I have been up to today!..

Have you ever heard of Manaiakalani? If you haven't heard of the word Manaiakalani before.. Here is my definition of what it means: Where all tamaki clusters make a film of what they've learned for the term and share it across every school. Which is basicly, like a film festival.! (Sorry if I am not specific about what Manaiakalani means, but this is all I know in short sentences). An example of this is: Room 10 made a movie/rap about how sugar can effect your body..

Anyways, what I am really trying to say, is that.. My buddy(Cerenity) - Her blogspot is.. (www.tpscerenityh.blogspot.co.nz). and I (Constance).. Have been working on a Manaiakalani display board.. This display board has 10 different types of movies/songs/raps, Tamaki Primary/intermediate school has made. But, put all together! .

Something I found challenging today, was working on the layout of how the film strips would be place.

I also found today really fun ! This is because, I got time to take the time off to work alone with my friend. .And it was just great working together with her! .

Yogurt Making

25/10/17 we made yogurt and it was our first time doing it as a class so we needed a bit of help. Frances was taught the day after so she came along and helped us. We made two different yogurts, One was Forest fruits and the other one was pineapple and coconut bits.

I enjoyed eating the forest fruits yogurt because it tasted so DELICIOUS!

Here is little bit of information about how to make yogurt and what you will need..

Technology! #Reflection

This week for Technology I worked with Frances and Akanesi. We baked Rock Cake.

Ingredients

Self Raising Flour
Sugar
Whipped Cream
Chocolate Syrup
Egg
Vanilla Essence
Milk

And the utensils we used was:

Cooling Tray
Oven Tray
Measuring Cups
Big Bowl
Plastic Scraper
Desert Spoon

Well I can say that today wasn't the best of our days, with not much people paying attention to instructions and getting the texture wrong. Mrs Tuipulotu wasn't too happy about it and, she started reminding us about remembering to listen and pay attention.

A challenge I found was when I had to put the texture onto the baking tray because it spread all over the tray connecting with the others. I enjoyed working with a new peer and finding out his different cooking skills.

Sorry, I have not yet been sent the photo of my groups DELICOUS! baking..

But, please leave a comment!

Hei Tama, Tu Tama!

Goodafter Noon!

Have you ever heard the word  indigenous before? The word  indigenous means, "Originating or occurring naturally in a particular place; Native.

The purpose of this question is because, you can catch up with what I am about to tell you! Instead of you, wasting your time and looking on google about "What  indigenous means(?)". Although, lets jump straight into the task.

______________________________________

Hei Tama, Tu Tama!

Hei Tama, Tu Tama is the name of the  indigenous game room 10 has been taught from Miss Kyla(Our Maori Teacher)!.

What are the rules of this Game(?)
  • The defender begins the game by calling "Hei tama tū tama" and places their hands in one of the four positions described above.
  • The challenger replies with "Hei tama tū tama" and does a different action.
  • When one player catches the other doing the same action, that player calls "Hei tama tū tama rā!" and scores a point.
  • The winner of the point then re-starts the set, saying "Tahi. Hei tama tū tama", and play continues until a player is caught out again.
  • Each time a player scores a point, they re-start the set by saying the number of points they now have followed by "Hei tama tū tama."

    Posistions(?)!
  • Hands on hips.
  • Both forearms raised, fists clenched, and elbows to the side.
  • Right forearm raised with clenched fist, left hand on hip.
  • Left forearm raised with clenched fist, right hand on hip.
  • The game continues until one player reaches ten points – this completes the set.

    Kupu/Word:
  • Hei Tama, Tu Tama!
    Tama Ra!

  • Here are some photos and a quick video for you to really understand the game!
  • Hope you enjoy!

Fatu Feu'u #Storiesfromthepacific

During this lesson, we have been learning about...
Inspired by Tapa.

What is a Tapa cloth?
Tapa:
* Used for clothing, costumes, blankets, masks, rooms and to help celebrate birthdays, weddings and funerals.
* Is made from the bark of the paper Mulberry tree. The bark is flattened, dried, and the decorated with dye,
* Have different designs. They use different colours, patterns and symbols to one another.

Because you know what a Tapa Cloth is, we can now move on to the main Topic. This topic is called: "Inspired by Tapa"!

Here are three famous polynesian artist:
1. Fatu Feu'u
2. John Pule
3. Dagmar Dyck
4. Ahota'ei'loa Toetu'u

From these 4 polynesian artist, we had to choose one we really liked and research about them. I have chosen, Fatu Feu'u!

Fatu Feu'u is a Samoan artist. I have chosen Fatu because he uses really bright and colourful colours. And really makes his work outstand.

Here is a "Google Drawing", showing my learning!

CureKids #Rednoseday

Today, Room 10 participated in a Kelly Sports event to support Cure Kids.

Cure Kids is a charity group. That means, if you pack a gold donation in the charity of Cure Kids.. Not only that they have the money to themselves, but they give it away to children who really need it. This includes: Asthma, Child Cancer, Stillbirth, Brain Injury etc. En example of ways they support children's health is having the Red Nose day. The effect of their work/research will build stronger and every child in the world will feel healthier and better again.

Today, I participated by celebrating the Red Nose Day.! That means, I have wore the colour RED) Why its called Red Nose Day?(Rhetorical). An example of a game we played for Kellys Sport was, Noddle Hockey. How do you play this?
Their is a quarter of a field that is set into a square. Cones are the boundary. There are different coloured dots on each side of the square. Cones are placed at both ends for the goals. Colours are called, they grab a noddle, whacking the ball in the middle. First team to get the goal WINS!
But supporting Cure Kids, I hope my impact has helped a lot of kids who have illnesses.. And I hope that every at Tamaki Primary School has made a huge difference.

Describing Fractions of Amount.

Today, I have been completing a task, related to fractions.
In this task, we needed to write statements related to the block collections.
For example:
There are 30 blocks altogether.
The fraction of the orange blocks would be 1 third. That means there are 10 orange blocks. I know this because, 20 divided by 3 is 10.
There are 10 yellow blocks. Yellow makes up 1 third of the collection.
There are 5 pink blocks. They make up 1 sixth of the collection. This is the same as the grey blocks. 30 divided by 5 is 30, so one sixth is 5 blocks.

If you keep working towards your fraction, this means, you will seek more knowledge through times tables and divisions. And you'll be able to do maths equations instantly.

Your Voice, Your Choice

This week, room 10 has been focusing on the 2017 elections! As you would know, "VOTING"! Anyways, the party I think that I would vote for, is LABOUR".. This is because, she has more persuation in her descriptions, than other parties..

Although, the party that I really dislike, was the GREEN party... This is because they want to bring Anti-smacking back into the law and also because they want kids to go Army camping for more discipline..

DARE SESSION: 4-5

Kia Ora!

For the last couple of weeks, the Kia Manawanui have been focusing on the D.A.R.E program...
D.A.R.E stands for: Drug, Abuse, Resistance, Education..

We have been learning about the causes that drugs have harmed to us and if it relates to short term effects or long term effects.. We have also been looking at people who have been getting sent to prison for a matter of time.. Some because of Murder and some because of phedaphile...

What did you find challenging?
Something, I found challenging about this session was the media.. Looking at what advertisements relate to their audience and why they are doing it.. Did you know that, not all news are real? Some are false..

Favourite Part:
My favourite part about this session, was learning more about how drugs can cause harm to your bodies.. Because, I now know not to take any drugs use, unless it has been given from a doctor..

The only drug I have taken before, is: Panadol..

Here is my last DARE session slide.

Hobby Heroes

Kia Ora!

For the last couple of weeks, room 10 has been focusing on our hobbies..
This week, we thought to make a google drawing about who are hobby heroes would be !

I have chosen Tyra Banks:

Did you know that, Tyra Banks would get mocked for, for having a big forehead.. Like, I mean, she is unique.. So, Instead of getting plastic surgery to change her looks, she owned herself .. I think this is very inspiring.. Do you know why? Because, my friend may have a big forehead, but that means she is smart and beautiful.. But, mainly unique.

Tyra Banks is my hobby hero because she inspires me to be a modelist..

I am interested in modelling because, I know that I can express my ways to the world.. It will also show every-body that I am beautiful, the same as every other person..

This is my hobby hero and I hope you have enjoyed..

My Qualities

Kia ora..

Quality is the ability to think differently, to get outside the box that forces solutions. Quality gives leaders the ability to see things that others have not seen. The most important question to this introduction is "What does qualities mean?" !
Qualities means the standard or something and the degree of an excellence work..

What I found challenging?
The main thing I found challenging, was creating a DLO about qualities... Now, I know how to create my own DLO to a national standard, to share my thoughts.. I have now guessed, that I used quality work standards.

Here is my google drawing about QUALITIES:

Similes Practice Task.

WALT: Use similes to create our writing and make it more powerful ..

Kia Ora! Today, I have been working on a similes create practice task.. This presentation helps me to achieve mistakes in writing and to also add a bit of a spice to it.. Similes also help me to order my sentences and tell someone something that is true within my own words..

E.G: I am a carved Taonga!
Means: I am a descendant from Nga Puhi and Ngati Whatua..

So, do you see how I shortened the sentence by using a simily. If I was to just write a paragraph with no expression, the story would be boring and I wouldn't be able to hook in the audience to read my point of view..

Read through this presentation and see how I made the similes interesting..

DARE SESSION: 2

We got given a task to complete. It is about drugs and why we should not use it!
This task is good because it helps us to think about our decisions and why we should not take drugs. My reason is because it will effect your future.Drugs are really not good for you unless it is drugs to help you heal our body. But drugs that heal your body or make you feel better would be panadol morphine other medical health treatments. But if you misuse these things, they can kill you.It is very scary because these drugs are supposed to help you…

What do you find challenging about this session?
Something I found challenging with this session was, hearing the different reasons why people take drugs and also hearing that it has chemicals in it.. After listening to that sentence from Constable Taina, I have learned that everyone in my class has taken a drug before.. And this drug is PANADOL: Panadol is a type of pill that helps with headaches and many more.

Henna Designs

Kia Ora.
Today, I will be blogging about my hobbies!

My hobbies are mainly:
Henna Designing
Modeling/Photographing
Celebrity Makeup artist(Doing celebrity make up)..

But, I am just focusing on Henna Designing today!

Why have I chosen of Henna Designing as a hobby?
I have put henna designing as one of my hobbies because, I feel like it can actually teach me a lot of things about art.. It is also because, it has special and ancient stories behind the design..

What do I find challenging about Henna?
The only thing I find challenging about henna Designing is the fact that it has a lot of detail in it.. Although, I have been doing some easy and natural ones for starters.

Here is a photo of some Henna Designs on a piece of paper:

You may not see the picture clear enough:
